Dr. Mari Watanabe received her medical degree and internal medicine residency training from Nippon Medical School in Tokyo. She received her PhD from Cornell University in animal physiology with a minor in applied mathematics. She has been a postdoctoral fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Northeastern University, and Glasgow University in Scotland.
She has two areas of research interest: Nonlinear dynamic analysis of cardiac action potential duration sequences, which has relevance for interpretation of T wave alternans and QT dynamicity, and Heart rate turbulence, an electrocardiographic risk predictor of mortality and sudden cardiac arrest. break; has a visiting scientist appointment at the Technological University of Munich, and is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society.
