Dr. Banke Agarwal joined the faculty as Director of Therapeutic Endoscopy in March 2002. Dr. Agarwal specializes in endoscopic ultrasound with areas of expertise that include the diagnosis of pancreatic and bile duct cancer, the staging of gastric, esophageal, and rectal cancer, and biliary disorders. He uses several innovative techniques in his treatment of patients, including intraductal ultrasound, endoscopic ultrasound-guided biliary drainage, and stricturoplasty (for patients with refractory esophageal and duodenal stricture that cannot be addressed adequately with balloon dilation).
He has clinical and research interests in gastrointestinal malignancies which include early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and issues related to pancreatic cysts, specifically their etiologic distribution, natural history, and the value of endoscopic ultrasound in their management.
Dr Agarwal has advanced training in ERPCs and endoscopic ultrasound and has developed a clinical practice and research database of using these tests in early identification of pancreatobiliary cancers and staging them.
