Dr. Britton joined the faculty of Saint Louis University School of Medicine in June 1990 having worked with Dr. Bacon since 1987. Dr. Britton has expertise in the areas of hepatic fibrogenesis, hepatic iron metabolism, lipid peroxidation, and alcohol-induced hepatotoxicity.

His current projects focus on the mechanisms of hepatic fibrogenesis, an examination of the signaling pathways within hepatic stellate cells that regulate cell proliferation and collagen synthesis, and iron metabolism in hereditary hemochromatosis. Dr. Britton is actively involved in the research component of the training program.
