Dr. Samer Alkaade joined the faculty of Saint Louis University in August of 2008. He completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology training at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. His last year of training was focused on pancreatic and biliary diseases. From July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013, Dr. Alkaade completed a fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy. Following this training, Dr. Alkaade was named the Director of SLUCare Center for Pancreatic and Biliary Disorders.
Dr. Alkaade treats patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. His areas of expertise include pancreatic disorders, biliary and gall bladder disorders, gastrointestinal malignancies. He is an expert in the use endoscopic ultrasound, and advanced interventional and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
He has clinical research interest in chronic and acute pancreatitis, evaluation of exocrine function in patients suspected of having early chronic pancreatitis using direct pancreatic functional testing and secretin enhanced MRI/MRCP, and the pharmacologic and endoscopic treatment of the exocrine complications of pancreatitis and the management of sphincter of Oddi disorders. Dr. Alkaade is the principal investigator at Saint Louis University of two national/multicenter studies related to chronic pancreatitis (one of them is NIH funded).
Dr. Alkaade is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Pancreatic Association, European Pancreatic Club, the American Gastroenterological Association and the Collaborative Alliance for Pancreatic Education and Research.
