General Information

Combined Internal Medicine Schedules
The Pediatrics Residency Training Program is in three month blocks for years one and two. For years three and four, residents may switch three month blocks so they will be on the opposite rotation. This affords the residents the opportunity for additional educational experience with seasonal variations of certain diseases (e.g., croup, RSV, Hand-foot-mouth disease).

Residents are provided with Master Schedules and can choose their elective rotations. The residents are able to make adjustments in their schedules to meet their individual needs. Some residents have arranged electives in foreign countries to expand their clinical experience.

Supervision
The first twelve months of the residents training are under the supervision of a senior level resident. During the next six months the resident's freedom and responsibility are substantially increased. Residents find this six-month period a great opportunity to increase their fund of knowledge and prepare for their supervisory role. The Med\Peds residents assume a direct supervisory role of other residents after eighteen months of training.

Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric Clinic
The weekly Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric Outpatient Practice allows residents to see patients of all ages at the University Medical Group building centrally located between the University Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Hospital. The Combined Medicine /Pediatrics trained faculty will work with you directly as you learn the practice of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in the Combined Outpatient Practice. This combined continuity practice cares for a diversity of patients of all ages from St. Louis and the surrounding area. You will care for outpatients from various socioeconomic backgrounds as well as with various diseases. Through supervision by Combined Medicine /Pediatrics trained faculty you will not only gain the knowledge and skills needed to be an independent practitioner but will experience the joy of caring for patients of all ages in a combined practice setting. We place significant emphasis on prevention of illness and fostering ongoing well being in your patients.

Vacation
Each resident has three weeks vacation their first and second year and four weeks during years three and four.

Days off
There is and average of one day off per week. These days are scheduled by the chief resident to not conflict with call and clinic responsibilities. The clinical responsibilities for the first year residents are covered by the supervising resident. During their day off the supervising resident's responsibilities are covered by the chief resident and attending.

Holiday Schedule
The residency program functions on a reduced residency staff during the holidays. This allows all the residents five days off during the Christmas or New Years
