Internventional Program

Interventional Nephrology Program

Saint Louis University nephrologists performed their first interventional nephrology procedure in March of 2000. Since then the service has grown into a comprehensive, nationally recognized, interventional nephrology service. The program is currently staffed by 3 certified full-time and 1 part-time nephrologist. In 2006 over 1200 procedures were performed by our team of interventional nephrologists (approximately 100 per month).

The Interventional service has expertise in the following procedures:
  1. Angiography and angioplasty of AV fistulae and grafts.
  2. Angiography and angioplasty of the central venous system.
  3. Placement, maintenance and removal of tunneled dialysis catheters.
  4. Placement of PICC lines and ports.
  5. Thrombectomy of AV fistulae and grafts.
  6. Placement of intravascular stents.
  7. Coiling of accessory veins in the management of poorly developing AV fistulae.
  8. Placement of trans-lumbar dialysis catheters
  9. Trans-jugular renal biopsy.
  10. Percutaneous biopsy of native and transplanted kidneys.
  11. Placement of abdominal and pre-sternal peritoneal dialysis catheters.
